Hi, I’m Amity - the educator behind Nestwise at Home.
I’m a homeschooling mum of three boys and a qualified teacher with over a decade of experience across Foundation to Year 10. I’ve spent my career specialising in language and literacy and immersed myself in that work in diverse classrooms, small group interventions and my own kitchen table.
My work, and my passion, sit where research meets real life. I understand both the beauty and the challenge of teaching your own children, and I’m here to make literacy feel less overwhelming and more empowering.
Every parent deserves to feel confident teaching their child to read. I’m here to make that possible.
The story behind Nestwise
After a decade of experience and frequent post graduate studies in this space, evidence based language and literacy instruction comes so naturally to me. But as I homeschooled my own children, and connected deeper with the homeschool community, I realised how hard it can be for parents to access the kind of evidence-based literacy knowledge that teachers are trained in. It’s even harder to make it work in a home environment that values freedom, curiosity, and connection.
I also know that homeschool parents often have this held against them. They are told that they’re not qualified to teach reading, or that it’s harder than they think. That message can quietly chip away at your confidence and steal the joy from what should be one of the most rewarding parts of home education.
I want to change that story. I’m here to help you understand the Science of Reading in clear, practical ways, so you can feel equipped, empowered, and supported. My goal is to leave you feeling confident in your role and joyful in the process. This is something you CAN do. I want to help you on that path.
I believe teaching reading and writing doesn’t need to be complicated or clinical. It should be joyful! But it also needs to be evidence based and informed.
Every family deserves to understand why literacy works the way it does, so they can confidently shape how it happens in their home.
I don’t offer a prescribed program, and I never will. Instead I share knowledge, tools, and encouragement that empowers you to teach your child in ways that align with both research and your family’s values.
